I recently attended the opening of the new VETS Canada house in Ottawa. Jim Lowther and his wife Debbie Lowther have worked tirelessly for many years, starting in Halifax, to establish VETS Canada right across the country. It is amazing how they have organized the veterans to help other veterans.
The mission for VETS Canada is to help move veterans from the streets or shelters into affordable housing if it is available. They also connect veterans with needed healthcare and help them access benefits and services from other organizations, including governments.Often vets who have received this help become volunteers themselves and work hard to help other veterans. The veterans include military and RCMP who have served.
Just an amazing success story.
On September 24th VETS Canada officially opened their first Veterans Drop In and Support Centre at 517 Besserer Street in Ottawa. Social Services for Veterans, a library, computer terminals and fellowship are now available as part of the services provided by the Ottawa Chapter of VETS Canada.
