Canada’s first Minister of Indigenous Services, Hon. Jane Philpott, has endorsed locating an RCMP dispatch centre in Millbrook, near Truro.
In a January 24 letter to Hon. Ralph Goodale, the Minister of Public Safety ultimately responsible for the RCMP, Philpott noted that the move would “advance the nation-to-nation relationship” between Canada and its First Peoples, and would “help to implement the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action.”
The RCMP’s communication centre in Truro needs to move because its current building is inadequate. Millbrook believes it has the answer; a modern facility with the flexibility and attributes the RCMP needs.
“The move would keep these good jobs in Colchester County, and would be a win for the RCMP, Millbrook, the federal government and Colchester,” says Bill Casey, MP, who agrees with such a re-location by the RCMP. “It would be a win for everyone concerned.”
