A Day with Bill
One of my daily duties as an MP is to attend the Statement from Members and Question Period from 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. (Eastern) Monday to Thursday and if in Ottawa on Fridays from 11 – Noon. In our Government Lobby we have a monitor that displays the order of Statements and Questions for the day.
The House of Commons seating arrangement is modelled on the House of Commons in London, England. This is where I sit.
The Speaker of the House plays an important role in keeping order and ensuring the House operates on schedule and members are recognized prior to speaking.
Cumberland Colchester is considered a rural riding and I belong to the Rural Caucus, chaired by Mike Bossio (left) MP for Hastings – Lennox and Addington (Ontario). We work on such issues as rural broadband, economic development, attraction and retention of rural populates, etc. We report on our work to caucus on a regular basis.
Andrew Leslie, MP for Ottawa-Orleans, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Canada – US Relations) took a minute to say hello recently. The United States is our largest trading partner and he, along with Minister Freeland will be putting Canada’s trade position forward to the US administration.
There are many events on the Hill and I enjoy learning about the wider world and how Canada can help. I took a few moments recently to attend a human rights exhibit highlighting jailed and executed Iranians who fought for human rights in their country. It was hosted by The Advancement of Human Rights Organization in Middle East.
